Berlin Story bookstore — closed Unter den Linden end 2016

opens in the bunker May 2017
We are, in fact, the only shop in Berlin that is exclusively devoted to Berlin.
The Berlin Story bookstore has over 3000 titles in twelve different languages in stock. We offer around 300 English books that delve into all topics from Prussian kings and the history of the Third Reich to modern architecture (Potsdamer Platz and Hauptbahnhof) and the best parties in town. Not to mention detective novels, children’s books, DVDs, CDs, posters, and marble busts – everything that the heart may desire, and it all relates to the city of Berlin.

Our website www.BerlinStory.de is extensive, informative and always up to date. Berlin Story is open from Monday to Sunday 10am – 7pm (365 days a year).

We are distinguished
Berlin Story was voted „Bookstore of the Year 2004“ in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, awarded annually at the Frankfurt Book Fair. It was the most successful bookstore in Germany in 2008. In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, we were selected „Best of the Best“ in Berlin by the magazine ZITTY. „Land der Ideen 2010“ crowned us „Ort des Tages“ – „Place of the Day“ –  in June 2010. We do everything in our means to make browsing as easy and comfortable as possible. Every member of staff speaks two languages in addition to German. The shop is clearly arranged. We offer reliable service and an overwhelming selection. Our friendly and qualified staff create a pleasant atmosphere. Each of them participates in two guided tours every month. We are part of Berlin’s cultural life. We do everything possible to provide a competent and friendly service.

Competence
Berlin Story is run by Wieland Giebel. He initiated the whole project, writes books about Berlin and produces films.  He is member of several historical societies and can often be found working in the bookshop, though not every day. [email protected]

Historiale – Our History Festival
In October 2006, about 30,000 visitors came from all over Germany and Europe to take part in the first Historiale festival. Scenic representations leading from the Brandenburg Gate down Unter den Linden to the Lustgarten commemorated the invasion of Napoleon in 1806. Over 200 actors, some of them on horseback, re-enacted the event.
In August 2007, the Historiale focused on the topic „Seizing crisis as a chance – the Prussian reforms.”
In March 2008, we invited Europe’s youth to celebrate democracy and freedom – 160 years after the March Revolution of 1848.
The 2009 Historiale dedicated itself to the extensive Imperial Era. We chose the topic because of the 150th birthday of Emperor Wilhelm II., the last German Emperor. In 2010 the Historiale took  Berlin back to the roaring twenties. Last year dealt with Berlin as the „capital of spies“ during the Cold War, in the midst of debris and reconstruction, petticoats and rock & roll. 2012 will celebrate 775 years of Berlin.
