BERLIN STORY

Bookstore & Publishing House 2008

Berlin Story bookstore
In April 2008 the bookstore Berlin Story moved in to new, spacious rooms in the Kaiserhöfe Unter den Linden 26.
We are, in fact, the only shop in Berlin that is exclusively devoted to Berlin.
The Berlin Story bookstore has over 10.000 titles in twelve different languages in stock. We offer around 300 English books that delve into everything from Prussian kings, the history of the Third Reich as well as modern architecture (Potsdamer Platz and Hauptbahnhof) and where the best party in town is. Not to mention detective novels, children’s books, DVDs, CDs, posters, and marble busts – everything that the heart may desire, and it is all somehow relates to the city of Berlin.

Our website www.BerlinStory.de is extensive, informative and always
up-to-date. The Berlin Story is open from monday to sunday 10am-8pm (365 days a year).

We are distinguished
Berlin Story has received the distinction „Bookstore of the year 2004“ throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, which is annually awarded at the book fair in Frankfurt. Since 2005 we have been elected annually „Best of the Best“ in Berlin by the magazine ZITTY. This is not without reason: We try to qualify our staff as well as possible. Every employee speaks two languages besides German, English most fluently. We are part of the cultural life in Berlin, and we take part in it too: the Berlin Story staff go on two guided tours a month and visits museums and exhibitions regularly. You can read our reports on the Internet. Whatever question you may have, whether you need directions, a special book or an insider tip on Berlin, we will always do our best to assist you.

Berlin Story Publishing House
The Berlin Story publishing house publishes around 20 to 30 books each year: hardcover and paperback, large and small, political and arty, historical and modern – all about Berlin. For more information visit www.BerlinStory-Verlag.de.

Exhibition „The Making of Berlin“ – No entrance fee
The history of Berlin on information tables, in a film and as a model of the historical center from the former castle to the Brandenburg Gate. This model has been exactly researched and been built exclusively for the Berlin Story. It functions as the heart of our exhibition. Numerous tables with illustrated texts in German and English give an overview over the city’s history. For a whirlwind introduction to Berlin's dramatic past and ongoing evolution, take a seat in front of our self-produced 25-minute film “The Making of Berlin”. It runs in German, but can also be shown in English and other languages. The DVD (in 8 languages) is available for 14.99 Euro.
Even large groups are welcome at all times without reservation. You are invited to take a seat in our sky blue Trabi and to take a photograph! The Trabi was the East German car and notorious for its long order time. Our model has been ordered in 1954 and been delivered in 1966. We hope to see you soon!

Historiale – Our History Festival
In October 2006, about 30 000 visitors came from all over Germany and Europe to take part in the first Historiale festival. A scenic illustration at the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and Lustgarten commemorated the invasion of Napoleon in 1806. Over 200 actors, some of them mounted, re-enacted the event.
In August 2007, the Historiale put the focus on the topic „Seizing crisis as a chance – the Prussian reforms.”
In March 2008, we invited Europe’s youth to celebrate democracy and freedom – 160 years after the March Revolution of 1848.
The 2009 Historiale dedicates itself to the extensive Imperial Era. We chose the topic because of the 150th birthday of Emperor Wilhelm II., the last German Emperor. As one of our main projects, the Historiale is highly supported by the Berlin Story.
